Taking a step back

In life, we take things for granted, we perceive bad things happening to us as a punishment rather than a lesson. We start to believe everything that is “Bad” or “Shitty” is just that –bad, but when you think and take a step back. You realize that someone, somewhere, would die to be in the position you are in right now. We believe a rainy day is bad because we can’t be outside enjoying the weather, but if we take a step back, we realize that we can spend time with our family, read a book, or even take a moment to journal and take in everything that has happened to us thus far. We can’t control the weather, but we can control how we feel about the weather and use that time inside to clean the house or prep a home-cooked meal. We can even use that time to meditate about why the weather is affecting us. Instead of feeling upset, you can be happy that you have been given time to do more inside with family or with yourself. By taking a step further, you realize that there is someone who is currently getting soaked from the rain, which has caused them to have a bad day. While you’re inside, dry and warm. You start to realize that there are people who are homeless who have not but a single roof over their head; Having their person and belongings get wet while you have a roof protecting you, your family, pets, and your belongings. You start to realize that a house down the street is currently flooding, while you’re inside your home, which is perfectly made and has no issues. A random person is currently waiting for the storm to die down so their flight can safely take off, so they can start their vacation, and this is causing them to believe that their vacation has been ruined. Which has caused them to have a bad vacation due to the rainstorm that you are currently watching through your window with a cup of coffee or beer. Let’s explore the person stuck at the airport because of a storm that has caused a delay, so now they have to wait hours to start their vacation. Even though their trip hasn’t started, they believe that their vacation has been ruined by this storm. A person who hasn’t left their state or town due to the inability to financially afford a trip would do anything to be in their place, even to wait for the storm to die down, and would be happy to wait for the delay because they haven’t left their home. Taking another step back, you start to realize that there are people who are currently on their deathbed who haven’t even flown or taken a vacation. As they wait for the storm to die down, they receive a meal in their eyes. It’s a gross meal that doesn’t look great, and they throw it away. A person a few hundred miles away is currently starving, who could’ve eaten that meal and would’ve not even have taken a second to think about throwing that meal away. We take things for granted due to our inability to control our feelings. We get caught up in what’s happening around us and get upset rather than take a deep breath and realize that “I don’t have it so bad”. We start to see life with one eye rather than seeing life with two eyes. We forget that we can take a step back and take a second to think about what’s going on around us. Due to our inability to control our feelings, which alters our way of thinking and living a peaceful life. No matter where you are, you could have it worse, and it’s best to truly take a step back and take a deep breath, and take everything in. As always have a good day, Good afternoon, or a Goodnight 🙂
